Police arrested a man and a woman for torturing a four-year-old girl, the wife’s daughter of a previous marriage, by burning her with a hot pan. According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that the woman and her second husband, Lalitha M and Y Prakash respectively, wanted to get rid of the child.
The 25-year-old couple works as a cook and guardian in a youth hostel in Nagar, police said.
The girl comes from Lalitha’s first marriage, she seems to have left or divorced her first husband and married Prakash.The girl was found with burns on her body after her mother had her sit on a frying pan. The burn wounds seem to be about 4-5 days ago, “said Md Waheeduddin inspector of the SR Nagar police station.
The problem arose when the couple took the child to ‘Bharosa’, an integrated support center for women and children, claiming that they found the child abandoned by the side of the road.
“During the audit, it was revealed that the child was” tortured “by the couple who wanted to get rid of her,” said Achyuta Rao, honorary president of the NGO Balala Hakkula Sangham.
On the basis of a complaint lodged by an official of the Child Protection Department, a case was registered under Article 324 of the CPI (intentional injury to weapons or dangerous means) and relevant provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act. leading to their arrest, said Inspector Waheeduddin.
