The Congressional Working Committee today adopted a resolution to make party chairman Rahul Gandhi and announced that the election for the position of president will be held on December 16 with the vote count scheduled for December 19.

The party said the notification for the post of president of the Congress will be published on December 1, while the nominations will have to be tabled on December 4. In the event that there is no candidate besides Rahul, the Congress will announce its candidacy on the last day of scrutiny, which is December 5th.

Rahul, currently vice-president of the party, should be the only candidate in the fray.

These announcements were made after a crucial meeting of the Congress Working Committee chaired by the party’s president, Sonia Gandhi, at her 10 Janpath, residence in the capital.
